What is the Baha’i Faith?

The Baha’i (pronounced: Bah-high) Faith is an independent world religion started in the mid 19th Century. It was founded by Baha’u’llah (pronounced: Bah-how-oo-lah), who was a Persian Nobleman who preached a message of peace, unity, and fulfillment. Since then, millions of people all over the world have embraced the Baha’i Faith. Like all the world’s great independent religions, the Baha’i Faith brings its own calendar, holidays, books and scriptures. The Baha’i Faith has no clergy. The collective efforts of the Baha’i community are channeled, directed and organized by periodically elected councils and advised by appointed individuals.

Describe the Baha’i community of Issaquah?

The Baha’i community of Issaquah is a diverse, energetic, fun-loving, and inspired group of people. We come from many different racial, social, and economic backgrounds. Like the early days of Christianity, we are starting our new Faith from scratch. We meet mostly in each others’ homes. We support each other with constant encouragement, inspiration, and humor. While we do not aggressively proselytize our Faith to others, our doors are always open to our neighbors and friends who are interested in the Baha’i Faith. We recognize that everyone is on their own individual investigation of the truth.

How often do the Baha’is of Issaquah get together?

People interested in the Baha’i Faith can attend our devotional gatherings, firesides, or study classes that we hold regularly. If you do not see anything new posted on this website, please call our local community number to find out when the next event will occur at (425) 996-7001.

The Baha’is of Issaquah get together every 19 days for an official community gathering called the Feast where we pray and meditate together, then we consult on community business, then we have food and refreshments. Additionally, we get together for the numerous Baha’i Holy Days and commemorations.

How is the Issaquah Baha’i Community Organized?

The Issaquah Baha’is get together once a year to elect a 9-person council we call the Local Spiritual Assembly (LSA). Our LSA then takes care of the finances, correspondence, and administrative affairs of the community. Additionally, we have committees, tasks forces, and individual initiatives and projects set up for all sorts of activities.
